The annual International Wide Bandgap Power Electronics Applications Workshop (IWBGPEAW 2017) took place on May 22-23, 2017 in Stockholm.
Traditionally, it was preceded by the popular tutorial on May 21st, where the participants learned more about Wide Bandgap (WBG) device design and operation, packaging technology, system applications and device driver issues.
With the overall aim to promote the use of the latest research and development results, the organisers, RISE, the SiC Power Center and Yole Développement (with the support of the Swedish Energy Agency), brought together experts from both academia and industry. The workshop attracted 116 delegates from 16 countries. Throughout the entire workshop, the attendees were invited to participate in productive debates and to use the numerous networking opportunities. Specialists from all over the world presented the current status, ongoing development and the opportunities of applications in the power electronics area from different perspectives. The WBG experts demonstrated also the newest product solutions and entered technical discussions with the attendees.
The workshop was accompanied by a brokerage event, where 64 participants took the opportunity to get in contact with potential partners and discuss specific collaborations in 37 B2B meetings. The brokerage event was organised by the Enterprise Europe Network with the support of the Green Power Electronics project.
For many years, the name of the workshop has been an issue. Earlier called ISiCPEAW, the subjects addressed in the workshop changed with the shift of the focus of the power electronics markets and technologies from Silicon Carbide (SiC) applications only, to Wide Bandgap-based technologies. This is why this year the workshop bears ‘wide bandgap’ in its name and was abbreviated IWBGPEAW.
To avoid this hardly memorable title in the future, the attendees were asked to suggest a new name for the event. Among many good proposals the name SCAPE: Stockholm Conference on Applications of Power Electronics was selected as the winners’ name for the upcoming events.
So, do not miss next year’s SCAPE at the beginning of June 2018 and get in contact with worldwide expertise on power electronics applications.
